My Mother was told today that her gall bladder is only fuctioning at 15% and they want to remove it?

What exactly does the gall bladder do? Will her diet have to change? What will the surgery consist of?My Mother was told today that her gall bladder is only fuctioning at 15% and they want to remove it?
The gall bladder releases bile into your stomach to aid in digestion. Her diet shouldn't have to change after surgery but, she should stay away from greasy, fatty and spicy foods until then. They can usually remove it laproscopically unless they run into complications. They can do it on an outpatient basis. The pain afterwards is generally minimal and she could be back to work in 2-3 days.
the gall bladder stores bile and releases digestive enzymes.
the gallbladder stores bile which is produced by the liver to aid in the digestion of fat.. Removing the gallbladder doesn't really have bad ill effects and recovery from surgery is about a week.
First of all, don't worry too much! It is a easy operation. People can live very well after the surgery. It's almost like the appendix, you can live without it. Bit of trivia here, Marilyn Monroe had her's removed.
Mine was removed a couple of years ago. I went home the same day and was back to work in a week. It was laparoscopic surgery and I have two or three small scars from it.
